Blowing in the Wind
direction, images (3D renders), sound
During the early days of the pandemic, I cycled through feelings of powerlessness, fear, and frustration. The loss of agency weighed on me. To focus my mind, I worked on these seamless audio-visual loops.
Each subject appears in black and white against a stark white cove because colour and environmental context felt unnecessary, even unwelcome, at the time. A tree sways in melancholy. Endless sheets of paper drift weightlessly backward and off-screen. A bird is trapped in a hollow imitation of a day and night cycle, its passage marked only by a shifting trinity of background lights. In all three scenes a faint spotlight lingers at the top centre of the backdrop; a constant presence hinting at something beyond the loop.
A carefully constructed soundscape envelops each visual, amplifying the tone of each scene.
